"Then which of the favours of your Lord will you deny (be ungrateful)?"countless times in surah Ar-Rahman

it's a sign, a reminder...
A sad incident happened here in Alexandria this morning...
One of my colleagues here passed away... she died of Carbon Monoxide poisoning from a suspected gas leak from the water heater... the bathroom was probably improperly ventilated as in winter students tend to close the windows... she couldn't be saved... inna lillah wa inna ilaihi raajiun
We are currently taking our final semester examinations at the current moment... 7 of 10 papers are left... the next one being tomorrow... she won't be able to sit for the 7 papers left, we still can...
My sincerest condolences for her family, housemates and friends who are probably in great grief right now...
Her battle might be over, but ours continues as Allah keeps us alive...
I still remember in school when my ustaz asked us to ponder on what belongs to us. our money? our clothes? our body?... no, they are all borrowed... even our LIFE is
not ours, that is why it prohibited to commit suicide, as it is not ours to give away... just as it is unethical to give a borrowed phone to somebody as it isn't ours to give... how ungrateful we are until Allah repeats the verse
a few other verse to ponder upon
I'd like to share few words from a syeikh here (general meaning)
"People tend to be so engaged in what has been decided for them,
and yet they forget what is demanded from them"
such a 'decided' thing is Rizq (Rezeki)... everybody's Rizq has already been decided for them...
for instance, a fisherman goes out to see one day for an hour, and comes back with a great catch, the next day he goes out for twice as long, and yet, his catch is not nearly as half has the previous day...
see the point here?
Of course it is not wrong to put effort as it is a golden rule that
"success is dependant on effort" but not to be so obsessed or preoccupied about these things that we forget our duties, responsibilities and what is demanded from us... our duties to Allah, ourselves, our family and relatives, our friends... (not going to into further detail)
which will all be asked and judged by Allah on "al-yaumu laa zilla, illa zilluh" (the day where there will be no shade, except His shade)
back to studying for tomorrows paper...
