BraiNStORm > 1


there are 10 boxes...
each box has 10 marbles
each marble weighs 10 grams... 

you've got the picture? .... ok

now, the 10 marbles of one of the boxes 
were changed with another 10 marbles 
but each weighing 9 grams....

still with me? ... ok

How can you identify which box 
(1st/2nd/4th etc.) 
was the box which had its marbles changed 
by using 
>>>> a scale, only once ?

just to make things a little easier...

this SHOULD be the case...

1 box, 10 marbles (10g)
= each box 100g

but, as i said... one of the boxes was changed with 9g marbles, so that box is 90g...

how can you identify the 90g box?

p/s : 10g is too little a difference to be weighed by using just your hands... you MUST use the scale.... BUT, only once....

its easy!!
just put the box one by one on the scale without replacing it..
and once you put this 90g box definitely the scale will show the difference measurement..
90g,190g,290g,390g,,n blablabla..

so thats it!
no more udang di sebalik batu,,ehehe

but that's using the scale more than once... many readings were attained

you can only use the scale once = one reading

try again...

hmmm..ok..
how abaout if we put all the boxes
alltogether on the scale and then we remove the box one by one..
so then we can identify the "mystery box" when the scale show reduction by 90g..
so thats it!!

but sorry to say, that still counts as using the scale many times (you got several readings to identify the 90g box)

you are only allowed to get one reading.

dan seterusnya.

semua tu, letak atas timbang,
tengok berapa gram kurang

you have to think out of the box...

1st box take 1 marble,
2nd box take 2,
3rd box take 3,
4th box take 4,
5th box take 5,
..... till the 10th box take 10 marbles....

ok....

if all the marbles weighed 10g, the total weight of the marbles taken would sum up to
= (10+20+30+40+50+60+70+80+90+100)
= 550g

thus, identification of the odd box (the one with 9g marbles) can be determined

here's how....

let's say the 5th box has the 9g marbles, the total weight of the marbles should be 550g. but since we took 5 marbles from the 5th box. the total weight should be less by 5 g (145g)...

tada.... !!
